Cuba fue electa hoy para integrar el Comité Intergubernamental para la Protección y Promoción de la Diversidad de las Expresiones Culturales, un órgano de la Unesco compuesto por 24 países.
La elección de la isla se produjo en la Asamblea General de las Partes de la Convención de 2005 para promover y proteger la diversidad cultural, foro virtual que sesionó del 1 al 4 de junio, y en el cual el ente multilateral renovó la mitad de sus miembros.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel met with the executive director of IFCO-Pastors for Peace, Gail Walker, to whom he said belongs a story of solidarity with Cuba.
In his Twitter account, the president expressed his satisfaction with the new meeting on Thursday and evoked Gail’s father, the late Reverend Lucius Walker, whom he described as a friend of Fidel Castro and Cuba.

US deprives Cuba of syringes it needs now

CUBA, the first Latin American country to develop its own Covid-19 vaccines, is presently short of syringes for immunising its population against the virus. It’s not feasible for Cuba to make its own syringes, and the US blockade prevents Cuba from importing them from abroad.

Most countries are experiencing a shortage of syringes. The New York Times estimates an overall need of between “eight billion and 10 billion syringes for Covid-19 vaccinations alone.” Manufacturing capabilities are increasing, but because of the blockade, are of no use to Cuba.
