One of our supporters from London summarised the day’s activities: «In south London we held a speakout against poverty, inequality, austerity and evictions today and held up the example of Cuba as what is possible when you break free from capitalist, comparing Cuba’s inspiring revolutionary response to the pandemic with Britain’s murderous one.»Sigue leyendo
Cubans residing in the United Kingdom raise funds since this Monday to build artificial ventilators for fighting coronavirus in Cuba.
Cuba can not acquire these artificial ventilators due to the US blockade.
At the time of writing this article, 24 members of parliament, across various parties in the UK, have now signed an open letter asking for the US blockade to be lifted, at least temporarily, to help Cuba fight the coronavirus at home and abroad.
Grahame Morris MP signed the open letter, adding, «it’s time for the international community to reciprocate and to lift the U.S. imposed blockade and end the embargo at the very least on a temporary basis.»
In a sign of true global solidarity, Cuba today allowed MS Braemer, a British cruise ship, to dock on its shores despite having at least five confirmed coronavirus cases on board and another 52 passengers displaying symptoms. The ship, with over 600 mainly British passengers, had no Cuban nationals on board but had requested help from both Cuba and the US.
Cuba acted without self-interest. The ship had been anchored in the Caribbean over the last five days as it frantically searched for a place to dock. Diplomats from the British Foreign Office had urged US officials to allow the ship to dock on American soil but were met with obstacles. Cuban officials instead accepted the request, stating that there must be “a shared effort to confront and stop the spread of the pandemic”. After all, these are still humans suffering, regardless of the passport they hold.
Cuba was present at the «Destinations: Holiday & Travel Show» tourism fair from January 30 to February 2 at the Olimpia exhibition center in London, capital of the United Kingdom, where the Caribbean island stand had a good welcome between the visitors.
Marketing specialist Isabel Jiménez told Prensa Latina that during the four-day event, they welcomed dozens of people interested in knowing the offers of participating tour operators.
