Cuba Solidarity Campaign activists took actions in London, Manchester and Sheffield today as part of the World Caravan Against the US blockade of Cuba.

The events were part of an international weekend of actions in advance of the United Nations General Assembly vote on the US blockade which takes place on 23 June. CSC members in Liverpool and Birmingham are also set to take actions on Sunday.

There is a growing worldwide demand to end the US blockade of Cuba to help the international battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

Politicians, international organisations, governments and millions of people across the globe are now calling on the United States to lift its blockade of Cuba at this time of worldwide crisis. The central demand is a humanitarian one — it is now time for co-operation across borders not aggression and blockade.

British MPs call for US blockade to be suspended during coronavirus pandemic.

Fifty one British members of parliament have written to Dominic Raab, the UK Foreign Secretary and acting Prime Minister to call for the US blockade of Cuba to be temporarily suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Grahame Morris MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cuba, coordinated the letter which asks the British government to make a public statement and to raise the issue directly with its counterparts in the United States’ government.

US blocks medical aid to Cuba in show of ‘wild west brutality’.

Cuba has blasted the continuing US economic blockade warning of a “violation of human rights” after a shipment of vital medical aid from China was stopped from reaching the country on Tuesday.

Washington was accused of acting with “Wild West brutality,” using the Covid-19 outbreak as an opportunity to “strangle the Cuban Revolution.”

“Cuba denounces the fact that medical supplies from Alibaba Foundation to help combat Covid-19 have not arrived in the country due to the criminal US blockade against the island nation,” President Miguel Canel-Diaz blasted.

Cuba’s report on the blockade.

Around November 7 the United Nations general assembly will vote for the 28th consecutive year on the resolution tabled by Cuba calling for an end to the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island.

As usual, the world will not be surprised when the US opposes the motion, ignoring the overwhelming majority of countries who call each year for an end to this “genocidal” policy. Last year 189 countries voted to end the blockade.

Cuba’s motion is backed by a detailed 50-page report that illustrates the devastating impact of the US policy on the daily lives of the Cuban people.

At the same time it sets out a myriad of US measures designed to stop countries, companies and individuals across the globe from trading with the increasingly beleaguered island. The ongoing impact on British-Cuban relations is devastating. The full report can be read here
