Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero headed a meeting in western Pinar del Rio province to assess the fight against Covid-19 and several economic issues.
According to the Twitter account of the Presidency, the meeting allowed reviewing the implementation of the monetary overhaul implemented in Cuba since January 1, as well as assessing elements related to food production and the fight against social indiscipline and illegalities.
The second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, also participated in the meeting, which is part of a cycle of sessions to be held in the country and that began in the capital on Monday.
The head of State emphasized the need for actions to counteract the pandemic, such as deeper and broader tests, and acting timely to reduce the chances of contagion.
Diaz-Canel also drew attention on the treatment of vulnerable groups and the permanent monitoring of income capabilities.
Regarding the monetary overhaul, he noted that it is a very important task, which requires efficient execution and sensitivity.
The president highlighted the role of leaders, who must be attentive to all issues, particularly those related to inflation, employment and the situation of the vulnerable, since it is an economic and political process, one of the most extensive implemented by the Cuban Revolution.
