Cuban sugar workers condemn US blockades.

CUBAN sugar agro-industry workers have condemned US blockades for “choking” the people’s economy.

Association of Cuban Sugar Technicians (ATAC) president Eduardo Lamadrid Martinez warned on Thursday that economic, financial and commercial blockades against Cuba by the US were becoming “more dramatic.”

“On behalf of the more than 10,600 technicians and scientists of the sector, we condemn this unjust policy that tries to choke us economically,” Mr Lamadrid Martinez said.

He added that co-operation could ensure increased efficiency and improved production quality.

Tight embargoes on Cuban products were pressed by former US president Barack Obama and heightened by current president Donald Trump.

Mr Lamadrid Martinez’s warning was echoed by Rafael Nodarse, president of the Association of Cubans Residing in Ecuador (Acure).

Mr Nodarse said: “Cuba will continue responding and moving forward. US has not succeeded in 60 years, nor it will succeed now.”

He added that his words reflect the feelings of many Cubans living in other Latin American counties who “reject the meddling policy” of the US against Cuba.
